A fatwa is a a ruling on a point of Islamic law given by a recognized authority. Check out why Muslims Banned From Posting Photos On Social Media Sites.
Darul Uloom Deoband, an Islamic school in India, has issued a fatwa that bans Muslim men and women from posting their or their family’s pictures on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and more. It considers posting photos on social media as “un-Islamic”.
The fatwa was issued after a man approached the school asking if posting photos on social media sites was allowed in Islam. Mufti Tariq Qasmi, an Islamic scholar recently said that if clicking pictures unnecessarily is not allowed in Islam then why is posting pictures on social media sites allowed.
The Darul Uloom Deoband has earlier issued many more fatwas including one that said women should not work as it made it difficult for them to wear the “Burka” or veil. Its fatwas have been criticized by many female activists. It even released a fatwa against the popular game Pokemon Go because it believed that there is “a high possibility that players may enter a religious shrine while prayers are being performed”.
The Darul Uloom Deoband has released many such stupid fatwas in the past like the one against Sania Mirza for wearing short skirts and revealing tops which we thoroughly oppose. Let us know if you too oppose such fatwas that violate the rights of women and even humans in the comment section below and do not forget to share our articles on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and more.
